POLICIES FOR CONSERVATION OF TRADITIONAL CULTURES, LANGUAGE POLICIES AND INTERNATIONALIZATION POLICIES

Description
This project deals with cultures and knowledge of traditional peoples and communities, with emphasis on the issue of linguistic contacts and their relation to school. One could notice border regions in which minority languages (Guarani, Tupinikim, Pomoranische/Pomeranian, Hunsrückisch, Tyrolese, Veneto/Trentino/Lombardo and others) influence each other. How language policies can help to strengthen social rights, mainly a bilingual education. Studies about the Pomeranian language and culture will be implemented. The objective is to strengthen research procedures for the implementation of public policies for bilingual education in traditional peoples and communities, specifically the traditional Pomeranian people. This research project also deals with the roles of technology and methodologies for teaching English as a foreign language and its relation with the policies for internationalization of higher education. This study is based on the idea that access to information and technology is necessary for building social capital and such access demands some knowledge of English and digital literacy in the contemporary urban world. It starts with a bibliographic review about the use of technologies and methodologies for teaching English, to present that the resistance and a non-critical use of technologies and methodologies for teaching English can have negative effects for the development of proficiency in this language and for social development in Brazil. Another assumption of this study is that the conscious use of technologies and methodologies, along with the teaching of English as an international language, are essential to promote social development and internationalization in Brazil, in a critical way, considering the negative effects of globalization, such as the commodification of education. This study also analyses public policies for the promotion of internationalization of higher education, such as the programs “Science without Borders” and “Language without Borders”, in comparison with policies for teaching English in elementary education in Brazil, connecting them with the methodologies for teaching foreign languages used in Brazil and abroad, with a focus on the approach for teaching various contents through language (Content and Language Integrated Learning - CLIL) used mainly in Europe.
