Project for International Cooperation

THE NEW PUBLIC MANAGEMENT AND THE PRIVATIZATION OF PUBLIC SYSTEMS OF HEALTH IN BRAZIL AND ENGLAND

Start Date: 01/08/2018
End Date: 30/06/2022

Description
A study to analyze the inclusion of actions of New Public Management in the healthcare systems of Brazil and England will allow the identification of similarities and differences between these two systems, in order to assess the significant impacts of these changes in the life of citizens, and the mechanisms for public management. It will also allow a deeper theoretical/practical understanding about Public Healthcare Systems and Primary Healthcare, in a perspective of comparative analysis with Brazil. This discussion is up-to-date and urgent: in 2018, SUS (the Brazilian Unified Healthcare System) reaches its 30th anniversary and NHS (National Health Service) its 70th anniversary, and both face crisis, with different aspects (SUS - a fragile political basis, severe lack of funding, measures for austerity and weak social recognition; NHS – financial restrictions due to the economic crisis that hit Europe in 2009 and pandemic influenza in recent years). This cooperation will happen with the University of Massachusetts Boston – United States.
